Three Ways to be a Perfect Medieval Knight Outfit

Are you determined to play medieval knight for upcoming themed event? It is every man’s dream of acting like a knight and to rescue a gorgeous woman or princess from disguise or to save love interest of life. But how will you create that image. The first step is to gather medieval knight costumes or clothing, second thing that follow are accessories and the last is copying their gesture or we can say behaving like a knight. Let’s discuss all three points one by one.

1.Medieval clothing for knight

Generally knight costumes consist of long sleeved medieval shirt or top. Unlike other costumes knight’s costumes were glittery, striking and radiant couture. These costumes were made of rich and vibrant fabrics such as velvet, rayon, damask, taffeta and silk. During medieval period one’s costume was symbol of his/her status in society and clearly tells someone’s profession too. Due to this reason when a knight wore his attire, people used to recognize his work easily. Knightly Tabards, Tunic, Leather Brigandine, Knight Surcoat were also a part of their attire.

Knight surcoats were worn over chain mails, gambeson embroidered on their clothing were meant to suit velvet or pants. Even gambeson or mail shirt wasn’t sufficient to protect knight from injuries therefore a garment, Leather Brigandine act as gap between wearer and attack of opponent. Still knight clothes are incomplete without robe, cloak, cape and hood. Among capes Crusader’s cape is most famous which was worn by The Order of Poor Knights of the Temple of Jerusalem. Made of cotton, it is hooded, has Red Cross sign on its left arm and long in length.

2.Knight weapons and armory

The most vital accessory that must be carried by knights and other worriers was sword. The most useful weapon in attacking enemy directly was available in different forms for instance premium swords, military swords, short swords and cutlasses. You can create your own sword replica. You can opt for King Henry VIII styles of swords or Viking swords. Even pirate swords will be apt as their swords were come from the attacked ship of nobles which was basically belonged to knights and worriers. Apart from swords medieval helmets, shields, armors and chain mails were inseparable part of knights’ outfit in battlefield.

Some shirts were made of chain mail along with hood. Battle axes, maces, war hammers, pole arms and spearheads had their own place in war. They are used to attack on opponent from distance so that no damage could cause to attacker. Just like swords you can create knight armor too. A breastplate or gauntlets can change the whole look of outfit.

3.Act like a knight

To be a knight, enact like a knight. Add spice of expression, emotion and make-up to give final touch to your character. A little search on body language and behave of medieval figure that you want to portray will take you to perfection. For this you can take the help of books, journals and internet.

Above given tips are meant to help you in dressing and enacting like a real Knight. All
